Shot recording change. From 2023-24 the NHL records more unblocked attempts as missed and fewer as on goal: the on-target rate fell .723 -> .702 -> .673 over 2022-23..2024-25, in every distance band at once, while attempts held steady. Save % and shooting % after 2022-23 overstate the change; goals per unblocked attempt does not depend on it.
Unblocked attempts and their goals leave out shots at an empty net.
